Bringing the new Chuy’s location to life on Greenville Avenue was an exciting challenge — one that blended historic preservation with bold, vibrant design. As the general contractor, we were proud to transform the former Desert Racer into a fully customized 8,200-square-foot restaurant and expansive 10,000-square-foot patio space that reflects Chuy’s unique personality.
From carefully relocating iconic elements like the Elvis statue to preparing the rooftop for the return of the legendary Tango Frogs, this project was about more than just construction — it was about honoring a legacy. Every detail, from the hundreds of hubcaps on the ceiling to the hand-painted tilework, was thoughtfully executed to capture the spirit of Chuy’s while delivering a modern, high-performance restaurant space.
We’re thrilled to have played a role in Chuy’s return to Lower Greenville and are proud to contribute to a project that celebrates both community and creativity.
A Fresh Start with Familiar Flavor
After 32 years at its McKinney Avenue address, Chuy’s has officially relocated to a lively new spot on Dallas’ Greenville Avenue. The East Dallas location brings the same bold Tex-Mex flavors locals love — from burritos and enchiladas to creamy queso and signature margaritas — but in a bigger, bolder setting.
Design That Tells a Story
The new Chuy’s is full of character, blending quirky décor with nostalgic nods to the brand’s Dallas history:
Elvis Statue: A longtime favorite from the McKinney Ave location now greets guests on the patio.
Tango Frogs: Three iconic 8-foot-tall steel frogs will be installed on the roof — returning to the street where they first became a sensation in the 1980s.
Wooden Fish: 876 colorful, hand-painted fish hang over the bar, creating a playful overhead display.
Hubcap Ceiling: Hundreds of chrome hubcaps reflect light throughout the dining room.
Palm Trees: Oversized metal coconut trees lean through the hallways, adding a tropical touch.
Honoring the Past While Embracing the Future
Much of what made the McKinney location special has been preserved:
Decor elements like the Elvis statue and other vintage pieces were relocated.
The entire team from the former location was offered positions at the new restaurant.
Additional staff were hired to support the expanded footprint and growing customer base.
A Homecoming for the Frogs
The story of the “Tango Frogs” is a Dallas legend. Originally created in 1983 for a nightclub on Greenville Avenue, the frogs have traveled across Texas and beyond over the decades. Their return to the street where they first danced is a full-circle moment — a fitting tribute to artist Bob “Daddy-O” Wade and the city’s eclectic spirit.
Why Greenville?
The new location keeps Chuy’s close to the heart of its Dallas fanbase — less than two miles from the original spot. The building, once home to the Desert Racer, has been reimagined but still radiates that signature Chuy’s energy: bold colors, funky décor, and a relaxed vibe.
Ready to Visit?
The new Chuy’s on Greenville Avenue opens at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 28, 2025. Whether you're a longtime regular or a first-time guest, the queso’s hot, the margaritas are cold, and the frogs are finally back home.
